Driver killed in two-car crash

A WOMAN has been killed in a shocking two-car crash in the Lockyer Valley, west of Brisbane.

The two vehicles – a white hatch and a dark coloured SUV – came to grief at the intersection of the Warrego Highway and Niemeyer Road at Hatton Vale about 9am, police said.

Sadly, an elderly woman who was driving one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man behind the wheel of the second vehicle escaped with only minor physical injuries and was taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment.

The two drivers were the only people travelling in the cars at the time.

Police are appealing to any members of the public who witnessed the incident or who have relevant dash-cam footage to come forward and contact them.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
