Driver of stolen truck arrested on roof of house after early morning rampage

THE driver of a stolen truck that rammed a police car in Melbourne this morning has been arrested in dramatic scenes after climbing onto the roof of a house in the city’s southwest.

Police spotted the 28-year-old man driving the stolen truck and trailer along McGrath Road at Werribee just before 3am on Saturday.

As officers intercepted the truck on Black Forest Road, the driver allegedly reversed into the front of the police car before driving away, causing the trailer to detach.

The truck then allegedly tried ramming a second police vehicle a short time later at Wyndham Vale before it ploughed through parkland and smashed into a footbridge.

The driver jumped out and tried outrunning officers but was found soon after, allegedly hiding on the roof of a house nearby.

The Hoppers Crossing man was arrested without incident and remains in custody, assisting police with their investigation.

Thankfully, no one was injured during the rampage.
