AN elderly man who was reported missing from Tweed Heads after failing to return home from picking up a pizza has been found dead almost 300km away in Queensland.
Peter Tawton, 72, man was last seen around 1pm on Sunday July 27 leaving his family home in Terranora.
Mr Tawton collected the pizza at around 1.30pm but didn’t make it back home.

His family reported him missing to Tweed Heads police shortly after 7pm that night. He couldn’t be located or contacted.
Last night, Mr Tawton was found deceased in Gympie, Queensland – around 280km north of Terranora – where it’s believed he’d been involved in a single-vehicle crash.
Queensland Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and will prepare a report for the Coroner.
