Elderly man robbed at gunpoint on Gold Coast street

AN ELDERLY man has been threatened at gun-point during a terrifying early morning robbery on the Gold Coast.

The 73-year-old was on the phone and sitting in his parked car along The Esplanade around 4.20am on Monday when another car pulled up in front of him.

A man, who he did not know, then got out of the car and approached his window before pulling out what appeared to be a black semi-automatic handgun.

The man then threatened the 73-year-old and demanded his wallet.

The victim initially denied he had a wallet before the gunman reached through the window and grabbed his jacket while pointing the firearm at his face.

The 73-year-old then handed over his wallet and the man ran back to the vehicle and drove away.

The offender is described as aged in his 20s and was wearing a black hooded jumper at the time of the incident.

Investigations continue.
