The Sudirman Cup is the World Mixed Badminton Team Championships held every two years and is the most prestigious team championships for the sport. The 2017 TOTAL BWF Sudirman Cup will be held in Gold Coast, Australia from 21-28 May 2017.
The Sudirman Cup, including the BWF AGM, will attract more than 1,500 participants from around 180 countries to the Gold Coast, and a global television audience of more than 400 million.
The competition venue will be the newly constructed Gold Coast Sports & Leisure Centre which is located in the sporting precinct for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The Cup is named after Dick Sudirman, a former Indonesia player and founder of Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI). The first Sudirman Cup tournament took place in Central Jakarta in 1989 and won by Indonesia.
For the last 14 championships of the Sudirman Cup, only 3 countries have claimed the title of World Mixed Team champion – China, Korea and Indonesia with China winning 10 times and will be coming to Gold Coast as the defending champion for the Cup.
During the Group Stages (days 1 – 6), children under 15 years of age are free of charge when accompanied by a paying adult, 1 child per adult.
