PHIL Hughes’ loved ones have spent the night waiting for the cricketer’s condition to improve at St Vincent’s Hospital.
Hughes was left to fight for his life after he was hit in the head by a bouncer in the Sheffield Shield match between South Australia and New South Wales at the SCG on Tuesday.
He collapsed as soon as he was hit, with his teammates and medics rushing to his side immediately.

Hughes was rushed into emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his brain and remains in an induced coma in intensive care.
His condition is not expected to be released until later on Wednesday or Thursday.
The Shield match was abandoned as a result of the incident.
