Family flee burning Gold Coast home

A FAMILY of five has managed to escape their burning home unharmed after it went up in flames at Runaway Bay on the Gold Coast.

Fire crews were called to the house on Oxley Drive shortly after 8.30am on Sunday.

They arrived to find more than half of the house burning.

Firefighters said the blaze ripped through the home “extremely quickly”.

It is believed to have started in the garage, before engulfing the kitchen and lounge room. The cause, however, was not immediately known.

It’s understood a man, woman and three children who live in the home managed to get themselves out safely after smelling smoke.

It took fire crews up to 30 minutes to bring the inferno under control.

The single-story dwelling has suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage, and part of the roof has collapsed.

Fire investigators were expected to attend the scene later today.
