MICK Fanning and Taj Burrow have been eliminated from their opening heats at the Cascais Pro in Portugal.
Coolangatta local Fanning was endged out by Jonathan Gonzalez from the Canary Islands, while Burrow was taken out in the 13th heat by Costa Rica’s Carlos Munoz.
Also eliminated in shocking fashion was fellow Australian Adrian Buchan, who lost out to 16-year-old Italian Leonardo Fioravanti.

Among the Australians to progress to the next round so far are Mitchel Coleborn, Connor O’Leary, Willian Cardoso, Adam Melling, Davey Cathels, Yadin Nicol, Stu Kennedy and Bede Durbidge.
The Cascais Pro is an event in the lead up to the Portugal Rip Curl Pro set to kick off on October 12.
