GOLD Coast surfer Mick Fanning has landed in the relegation round at the Fiji Pro.
Fellow Aussie Taj Burrow also failed to make it straight into the third round at Cloudbreak after a disappointing performance in his initial heat.
ABC reports, Hawaii’s Fredrick Patacchia secured the first barrel of the event for a 7.93 and the lead, his late 8.10 wave ensuring a 16.03 score to put him ahead of defending world champion Fanning (12.83) and compatriot Glenn Hall (12.67).
