Young woman killed, another seriously injured in early morning crash

A young woman is dead and another is seriously injured after the car they were travelling in crashed into a tree at Moama, in the New South Wales Riverina region this morning.

Police say the Renault hatchback was travelling along Perricoota Road just before 3am when it spun out of control and struck a tree.

The 19-year-old female driver from Bendigo, Victoria, was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne with serious injuries. Her current condition is not known.

A female passenger died at the scene. Whilst she has not yet been formally identified, she is believed to be a 22-year-old, also from Bendigo.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
