Fire breaks out on Gold Coast’s M1

A FIRE has broken out alongside the M1 on the southern Gold Coast.

Fire crews were called to the Currumbin Creek Connection Road off-ramp at Currumbin Waters just before 4pm.

It’s understood the fire is producing a large amount of smoke which is affecting visibility for traffic travelling through the Tugun Tunnel.

Drivers are urged to proceed through the area with caution and watch out for emergency services working in the area.

Meanwhile, crews are fighting a larger blaze that broke out at Upper Coomera around 3.30pm.

The fire is believed to be burning through bushland near the intersection of Reserve and Brygon Creed roads.

Three trucks were still on the scene at 4.20pm.

Residents in the area are urged to close their doors and windows and keep respiratory medications close by.
