France win World Cup after defeating Croatia in action-packed final

Tens of thousands of passionate football fans have filled the streets of Paris to celebrate France’s stunning World Cup victory.

The French defeated Croatia 4-2 to become champions of the world for a second time overnight. The first time they lifted the trophy was on home soil 20 years ago, and they got to do it all over again in Moscow, Russia on Sunday.

The action-packed match was filled with just about everything, including an own goal by Croatia’s Mario Mandzukic and an Antoine Griezmann penalty, the first ever World Cup final penalty awarded by a VAR (Video Assistance Referee).

French footballer Kylian Mbappe also made history, becoming the first teenager to score a goal in a men’s World Cup Final since Pele in 1958.

The 19-year-old was awarded the FIFA Young Player award for his incredible World Cup performance, while Croatia’s Luka Modric was given the Golden Ball for being the player of the tournament.

Congratulations, France!
