The State Government has announced a funding boost for the new Park ‘n’ Ride facilities at Ormeau station.
An extra $2 million will be allocated to the project, bringing the total investment from the State to $4 million.
It will mean another 40 carparks can be added, increasing the total number of new car spaces for train commuters to 110.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey says the 110 new carparks will go a long way to improve Park ‘n’ Ride facilities.
“Initial design work on the upgrade indicated that only 70 new car parks could be built, but we have since been able to identify that, with further detailed design work, a total of 110 additional spaces can be built.
“Building more car parks will mean construction won’t start until later than initially planned however, the extra time and additional funding will ensure a larger Park ‘n’ Ride facility for Ormeau commuters,” Minister Bailey.
Commuters who travel through Ormeau station jumped 21 per cent from October to December 2018 and the same period the previous year, putting it in the top six busiest south east train station.
The additional design work is expected to be complete in coming months, with tenders for construction soon after.
“Once complete, the Ormeau Park ‘n’ Ride upgrade will help to connect even more Ormeau residents with public transport in their region,” Minister Bailey said.
