Get in early for 2015 Australia Day Awards

JANUARY might seem a long way off, but now’s the time to start thinking about a community champion to nominate for the City of Gold Coast’s 2015 Australia Day Awards.

Nominations open today and Mayor Tom Tate is urging the Gold Coast community to consider people or groups who are worthy of recognition for helping to make our city a better place to live.

“If you know someone who works tirelessly for their local community, someone who is an inspirational leader, or a person who devotes their time to helping others, then consider nominating them for an award,” said Cr Tate.

“There are also categories to nominate a committed sportsperson, environmental supporters and cultural advocates.

“In every area of our community, in ways that are big and small, local heroes are contributing to making the Gold Coast the sensational place that it is. The Australia Day Awards are a wonderful way we can offer a well-deserved, community-wide ‘thank you’,” he said.

The Awards are offered in the following six categories:

Gold Coast Citizen of the Year Recognises outstanding members of the community for their personal endeavours, achievements and community input.

Gold Coast Young Citizen of the Year Recognises young citizens for their personal endeavours, achievements and community input.

Community Service Award Recognises individuals or groups who have provided outstanding service to the community.

Sports Achievement Award Recognises the committed sportsperson, coach, administrator or official whose actions inspire others and enrich the community through sport.

Environmental Achievement Award Recognises individuals or groups who demonstrate genuine passion for the environment and strive to improve it.
