Girl, 8, among two dead in highway crash

A MAN and a small child have been killed in a horror head-on crash on Queensland’s Bruce Highway.

It happened at the intersection with Ross Camp Road, about 5km south of Childers, just after 1pm.

Queensland Police confirmed two people, including an eight-year-old girl, were killed in the collision.

“A passenger from one of the cars, an eight-year-old girl, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” police said.

“The male driver and sole occupant of the second car was also pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The little girl is believed to have been travelling in a vehicle with another child, believed to be her 12-year-old sister and their grandmother.

The woman sustained upper limb and chest injuries and was airlifted to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

Her surviving granddaughter also sustained upper limb injuries and was flown to the same hospital. She’s in a stable condition.

The Bruce Highway remained closed at 4pm, however, diversions were in place.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
