The 64-year-old local woman driving the car stopped and did what she could to help the girl, police said.

The eight-year-old was treated at the scene before being rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Sadly, though, the little girl’s injuries were too severe and she later passed away in hospital.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and are wanting to speak with anyone who may have seen the child prior to the crash.

They are also wanting to speak with motorists who may have driven through the area with a dash cam.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
