THE GOLD Coast has received the flag and baton for the 2018 Commonwealth Games as things come to a close in Glasgow.
The closing ceremony, which was held at Hampden Park, had a distinctly Gold Coast edge and showed off the glitter strip’s best assets like the sun, sand, theme parks and wildlife.
Two Emmanuel College students were chosen to take part in the handover alongside headline act Jessica Mauboy, 100m hurdler champion Sally Pearson and world champ surfer Mick Fanning.

The Gold Coast will have a lot to live up to when the games are held on the glitter strip four years time, with Glasgow declared the “best ever” during this morning’s closing ceremony.
Overall Australia finished second on the medal tally with 49 gold medals.
England took first spot with 58 gold, while Canada came third with 32.
