Update @5.05pm: There’s now been a crash in the northbound lanes on the M1 stretch through Nerang.
Paramedics are on the scene treating a motorbike rider, after his vehicle collided with a car in the right lane near the Nerang-Southport exit around 5.00pm.
He’s been treated for a knee injury, though it isn’t believed to be serious.

Witnesses report multiple police cars and ambulances are on scene, with orange cones blocking off the lane.
Delays are well back past Gooding Drive at the time of writing.
Earlier @ 4.45pm: There’s been a nasty six car crash on the M1 southbound through Pimpama, causing even more delays for commuters.
It happened in the right lanes around 4.45pm.
It’s understood emergency services are on their way to the scene.
Luckily, the cars involved have been able to move off into the emergency lane, though there are still significant delays.
Earlier @3.15pm: The M1 on the Gold Coast is enjoying its usual drama this afternoon, with school holiday traffic either trying to leave the coast or return to the coast.
So far this afternoon, motorists have reported a three car smash southbound on the M1 near the Smith Street Exit.
It’s currently blocking one lane, with traffic bottle-necking to two lanes through the area.
For the northbound run, delays are already back to the border, thanks to the roadworks and also a broken down car in Mudgeeraba.
On the Tweed, there’s been a four car smash out the front of Tweed City Shopping Centre, causing significant delays for local traffic.
Local roads are beginning to clog now as well, with traffic trying to avoid the motorway.
The Gold Coast Highway is particularly patchy between Palm Beach and Surfers Paradise.
