Gold Coast man to appear in court charged over Helensvale shooting

UPDATE @ July 23, 8.00 AM | A MAN is due to appear in court today, charged over the shooting of another man who was shot and dumped on the side of a road at Helensvale.

The victim, a 42-year-old man, was found lying on Helensvale Road bleeding from a significant gunshot wound to his leg on Thursday afternoon.

He was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Following investigations, a 27-year-old man from Arundel was arrested by police on Sunday and charged over his alleged involvement in the incident.

He was charged with armed robbery, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and breach of bail.

He’s due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.

Investigations into the shooting are continuing.

EARLIER @ July 22, 7.30pm | A GOLD Coast man out on bail has been charged over the shooting of another man who was shot and dumped on the side of a road at Helensvale.

The victim, a 42-year-old man known to police, was found lying on Helensvale Road bleeding from a significant gunshot wound to his leg on Thursday afternoon.

A team of paramedics worked to stabilise the man on the roadside before taking him to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment. He remains there in a stable condition.

Police immediately began searching for three men aged in their late 20s and early 30s who were seen with the victim a short time earlier, driving around in a silver or gold hatchback.

The men were also allegedly spotted in the vehicle acting suspiciously near a shopping centre on Lae Drive at Runaway Bay earlier in the day.

One of the men, a 32-year-old man from Upper Coomera was arrested shortly after the incident but was later released without charge.

Following further investigations, a 27-year-old man from Arundel was arrested on Sunday and charged over his alleged involvement.

He’ll appear in Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow, charged with armed robbery, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and breach of bail.

Investigations into the shooting are continuing, with detectives still searching for a third man.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have relevant information, CCTV or dash cam footage in relation to the vehicle to contact police.
