A GOLD Coast man has vowed to keep working after winning $1 million in Lotto on Wednesday night.
The man, who did not wish to be identified, said he almost had a heart attack after learning the ticket he’d purchased online was a winner.
He’s the 17th person to win a division one prize on the Gold Coast in the last 13 months, earning the tourist city the reputation of Queensland’s Lotto hotspot.

Not only was the man the only division one winner in the country on Wednesday night, his System 7 entry also won division two six times, bolstering his total prize to $1,026,700.90.
“I tell you, I nearly had a heart attack last night – I couldn’t sleep,” the man said on Thursday morning.
“When I looked at the numbers and saw them I thought ‘what’! I had the six winning numbers and then when I looked again I had the supplementary numbers as well. Every number was a winner!
“This is just so unbelievable!”
The hard-working winner who is close to retiring said he wouldn’t be making any major changes to his life.
“I’m approaching retirement but I’ll keep working,” he said.
“I’m not going to rush into anything. I’ll take my time and be considered with what I do.”
The man purchased his winning entry online at thelott.com with lucky numbers 35, 29 14, 37, 16 and 38, and supplementary numbers 40 and 24.
In the 12 months to December 1 last year, the Gold Coast was Queensland’s Lotto capital with 13 division one winners taking home a combined total of more than $9 million.
Meanwhile, a Coomera man and a Labrador woman were among 21 people across the country who pocketed $1.4 million each at the end of December after sharing in the $30 million megadraw.
Most recently, a Gold Coast couple living in a caravan won a whopping $10 million division one prize in Oz Lotto’s $40 million jackpot at the beginning of January.
