Gold Coast mother wins $500,000 in gold bullion in Australia’s newest charity draw

A GOLD Coast mother who purchased a ticket in a charity draw got the shock of her life this week after receiving a call telling her she’d won half a million dollars worth of gold bullion.

The Mermaid Beach woman is the first winner of Australia’s newest charity lottery, Play for Purpose, where players choose a charity to support and buy a ticket into the draw to win a share of $1 million worth of prizes.

The local mum was in disbelief when she was told the ticket she had bought to support PCYC Queensland had won the top prize of $500,000 in gold bullion.

“This is lifechanging!” she exclaimed. “I’ll never forget this phone call.”

“I just can’t believe this, I’ll be giving back to PCYC, they do an amazing job and they need support.”

The woman, who was at work at the time she received the life-changing news, said she would go on a holiday with her winnings and buy her parents a house.

PCYC Queensland CEO Phil Schultz said he was thrilled that a valued member had taken home the top prize.

“The funds from this wonderful Play For Purpose initiative will be used towards supporting young people who need it most,” he said.

Play For Purpose Founder John Corry said the platform raised more than $1 million in partnership with more than 100 participating charities across Australia.

“We’re thrilled to have been able to deliver valuable funds to so many good causes,” Mr Corry said.

“Play For Purpose is a win-win experience for supporters, they simply jump on to the website, choose the charity they wish to support, buy a ticket and go into the draw to win $1 million worth of prizes.”

The next Play For Purpose draw will be announced soon.
