IT SEEMS the rest of Australia is catching on to what Gold Coast locals already know – the Gold Coast is one of Australia’s most exciting destinations to experience.
The Gold Coast has been voted fourth in ‘Australia’s Top Ten Destinations to Experience 2014’ from a list of 30 shortlisted locations in a national consumer poll conducted by Experience Oz.
Rottnest Island in WA took out the number one spot, with the Whitsundays coming in second and Margaret River in third.

During the poll, just under 2000 participants were asked to consider a number of criteria, including the overall ‘Aussie nature’ of the destination, the variety of experiences on offer, the destination’s unique geographical features, attractions and activities, and culture or history in or around the destination.
Experience Oz Digital Marketing Manager Matt Hobbs said the poll is a great opportunity to identify the best destinations in Australia for the local, regional and domestic tourism market to experience, no matter their size.
“This year’s list would make a great bucket list of places to experience in Australia,” he said.
“Locations such as the Gold Coast are really leading the way in providing unique experiences for visitors, and it thoroughly deserves to be included in this list.
“While it’s surprising that iconic destinations such as Sydney, Melbourne and Perth did not make the list, the poll has indicated that a number of Aussies have already experienced these capital cities and are looking towards more regional, escapist destinations to experience this year.
“Australia is the land of the green behind the gold and we want to show people that they don’t need a huge budget to enjoy what our country has to offer. We have more than three thousand experiences available for people to browse through from all walks of life. We want to encourage people to step outside their region and explore these beautiful destinations.”
