Gold Coast Outrigger Canoe Club wins $2500 Smiles All Round Sports Club Grant for October

A local canoe club has won the second round of the Coastal Dental Care Smiles All Round Sports Club Grants.

Gold Coast Outrigger Canoe Club scored $2500 after securing the highest number of votes during October on the website.

Junior Development Coordinator, Lavinia Tuakalau, told myGC the club was thrilled to win the grant.

“The kids are going to be so excited that we won,” she said.

“We are hoping to take them to New Zealand next year for an international race called the Takapuna Cup, so this money will go towards helping to fund that.”

Ms Tuakalau said the club currently has just over 100 members, with juniors ranging in ages from 8 to 19.

“It’s not a hugely popular sport but it is growing and is great for kids,” she said.

“It’s really fun to be a part of the club and we are currently the national champions in both the single and team marathon and sprint distances.”

Nominations are now open for the November round of the Coastal Dental Care Smiles All Round Sports Club Grant.  You can nominate your local sporting team to win $2500 here:
