Gold Coast singer Amy Shark to open Origin III with special Captains tribute

GOLD Coast singer-songwriter Amy Shark will open State of Origin III at Suncorp Stadium next week as part of a special pre-match tribute honouring former Queensland captains.

Cameron Smith will be farewelled as part of the tribute which will also feature former Maroons Captains including Wally Lewis, Mal Meninga, Allan Langer and Darren Lockyer.

The night will also include a tribute to Maroons fullback Billy Slater, who will be Queensland Captain for his final State of Origin match.

NRL Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Abdo said Smith and Slater were two of Queensland’s greatest players and had been a key part of the Maroons’ successful dynasty.

“They have created history together and we want to provide both players a fitting tribute and give Queenslanders and all fans of the game the chance to farewell their heroes.

“It will be great to have homegrown Queensland artist Amy Shark perform for this special occasion.”

Our very own Amy Shark will open the night, with her performance accompanying the Captains tribute, and said she was thrilled to be asked to be part of the celebration.

“My mum and dad are going to be extremely happy.”

The homegrown singer-songwriter will release her highly anticipated debut record, Love Monster, on July 13.

Trains and buses will be free for fans travelling to and from the Game between midday until midnight.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early in order to catch the pre-game entertainment.
