A Gold Coast startup is on a mission to reinvent the care industry with a self-service mobile app that gives locals the ability to connect directly with a carer.
The brainchild of Burleigh Heads local Michael Metcalfe, Kynd was developed to help users find the right carer for their needs.
The app currently has more than 250 carers from the Gold Coast and Tweed registered, offering a range of services including Private Care, NDIS Support and Home Care (including for
Government Home Care Packages).

Mr Metcalfe said he came up with concept for the app after becoming frustrated while trying to organise care for some of his family members.
“The biggest frustrations with seeking care are high entry, admin and exit fees, extended waiting periods, lack of information about carers, zero choice and continuity in carers, lock-in contracts, a real lack of diversity and packaged, not personalised care,” he said.
“With Kynd, members can join free, choose services and there are zero entry, admin or exit fees.
“Finding the right carer can be an emotional rollercoaster – we’re ensuring that people are comfortable and happy with carers they invite to their home and to help, with pre-screening, detailed profiles, genuine choice and options for people to meet with a free ‘Meet & Greet’.”
Along with ‘Meet & Greets’, Mr Metcalfe said users can instantly request bookings for one-off, short-term or ongoing care and with zero admin fees.
Carers who successfully apply to join Kynd are provided with insurance cover and can choose their own hours, rate and who they want to assist. They are also provided with insurance cover and the opportunity to be recognised for quality service.
“It’s vital we look at the entire industry and build the future for new and experienced carers, not just those needing care. Most carers are forced to focus on process, not people. We want care to be simple, affordable and genuine,” Mr Metcalfe said.
