Gold Coast surf lifesaving clubs get funding boost

GOLD Coast surf lifesaving clubs are set to receive a funding boost from the Federal Government.

While visiting the Gold Coast today, Sports Minister Peter Dutton announced clubs will receive an extra $25,000 over five years.

The funds are expected to be used to purchase rescue equipment, first aid and medical supplies.

In addition to the equipment funding, an additional $2 million will be given to the Beach Drowning Black Spot Reduction Programme.

This programme aims to reduce drowning at dangerous beaches and provide public safety programmes to highlight coastal hazards such as rips.
