Gold Coast swimmers grab gold in Melbourne

TWO GOLD COAST-based swimmers will be coming home with heavy necks, after picking up two gold medals on night two of the Hancock Prospecting Australian Short Course Championships at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.

Emma McKeon from Griffith Uni defended her women’s 100m butterfly title, hitting the wall at 56.72, with Laura Taylor from TSS Aquatic swim club and Gemma Cooney from Brisbane Grammar taking out silver and bronze respectively.

McKeon then went on to win the women’s 50m freestyle in 24.01.

While, Larkin (pictured) claimed gold in the men’s 200m backstroke (1:49.07), almost two seconds ahead of Jorden Merrilees (1:51.32) and Tristan Hollard (1:52.97).

The TSS Aquatic champion then backed it up in the 200m IM.

Saturday’s heats are now underway, ahead of the finals later in the day.
