Gold Coast woman killed in head-on crash with gas tanker

A GOLD Coast woman has been killed in a horror crash with a gas tanker on the Darling Downs.

The accident happened on the Cunningham Highway at Clintonvale shortly before midday on Saturday.

Police said the woman was travelling west along the highway when her Toyota Rav4 veered onto the wrong side of the road and collided head-on with an LPG gas tanker approximately 15km east of Warwick.

The woman, believed to be aged in her 50s, sustained life-threatening injuries in the collision.

It took emergency crews roughly 45 minutes to cut her out of the tangled wreck.

She taken by ambulance to Warwick Hospital but sadly died shortly after arriving.

The driver of the tanker escaped uninjured.

It was revealed on Sunday that the woman was from the Gold Coast.

The Cunningham Highway was closed for two hours after the accident while forensic investigators examined the scene and crews worked to clear the wreckage.

As investigations into the cause of the crash continue, police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash or for anyone who has dash cam footage of the incident to come forward and call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
