NATIONAL Child Protection Week kicked off today, with Gold Coasters urged to do their part in stopping child abuse and neglect.
It follows a 29% increase in substantiated cases throughout Australia over the past two years.
A recent study also found children are feeling less safe and disconnected from adults and their community.

The study indicated this may be due to longer working hours, financial pressures and a fear of violence.
Lead Researcher Doctor Sharon Bessell says taking time-out to listen and talk with children can help make a big difference.
Child Protection Week runs from the 7th until the 13th September.
