WITH Summer only just around the corner, Gold Coasters are being urged to understand the risks associated with serious storms.
New data from Suncorp Insurance shows that more than 175 suburbs, more than 80% of the region, are rated in the ‘high risk’ range for storm.
Suncorp Insurance spokesperson, Melissa Cronin, said the organisation is not sharing this information to alarm residents on the Glitter Strip.

“We’re doing this so Gold Coast residents are informed of the risks, and can take appropriate action in and around their home,” Ms Cronin said.
“We know about storms and cyclones – and we know what you can do to protect your homes and families, so we’re sharing the tips so everyone can be prepared.”
As part of Suncorp’s “Resilliance Week”, the company will be providing helpful tips on their Facebook page to help people prepare for the upcoming season.
Ms Cronin, said the organisation wanted to encourage Gold Coast residents to take the initiative, get involved and ensure they are prepared.
“Queensland’s summer weather is unpredictable. As we’ve seen all too frequently over the past few years, summer storms can cause a lot of damage. So it definitely pays to be prepared, and we want to help Gold Coast residents do that,” Ms Cronin said.
