Gold Coasters warned of ‘T20’ road closures this weekend

If you live or are planning on travelling through Carrara on Saturday, you may want to be aware of a number of road closures due to the T20 Australia v South Africa cricket match.

The match will be taking place at Metricon Stadium tomorrow, with a sell-out crowd of more than 23,000 spectators expected to attend this year’s event.

Police say they have been working with event organisers and stakeholders to ensure the cricket match is conducted safely and with minimum disruption to traffic, however have urged motorists to avoid the area.

“Motorists are advised that travelling in the vicinity of Metricon Stadium – specifically Nerang-Broadbeach Road – at Carrara during this event may results in delays due to the diversions that will be in place,” police said in a statement.

People heading to the inaugural cricket match are also being urged to make the most of free transport, which is incorporated into the ticket price.

Delays and traffic congestion can be expected on the following Carrara roads from 4.30pm to 10.30pm on Saturday:

  • Road closure at Alabaster Drive, between Plateau Crescent and Nerang-Broadbeach Road
  • Traffic management the intersection of Chisholm Road and Nerang-Broadbeach Road
  • Traffic management of U-turn facility at Nerang-Broadbeach Road
