Gunman sparks high-speed police pursuit, takes woman, 80, hostage: report

A GUNMAN has reportedly taken an 80-year-old woman hostage and is leading police on a wild chase through Victoria.

It’s understood the man first threatened police with a shot gun after they attempted to serve a warrant at Dandenong.

The man reportedly then jumped into a car with a woman, believed to be his girlfriend, and took off down the Monash Freeway, sparking a high-speed pursuit.

Seven News reports the man then stole a car near Moe before allegedly carjacking another vehicle and taking an 80-year-old woman hostage near Traralgon.

He then dumped the 80-year-old woman and her car after crashing into a house before he allegedly carjacked a fourth car.

Just after 2pm AEDT, the enraged driver was at Stafford in Gippsland.

More than 30 police cars and at least two helicopters are said to be in pursuit of the vehicle.
