Holidaymaker medevacked off Fraser Island

A HOLIDAYMAKER has needed to be medevacked off Fraser Island after falling seriously ill.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue chopper was dispatched to retrieve the middle-aged man from Sandy Cape Beach after suffering a medical incident on Friday morning.

The LifeFlight crew lowered a Critical Care doctor and QAS flight paramedic onto the beach with a stretcher to administer treatment and stabilise the man.

He was winched back into the helicopter before being flown to Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition.

After completing the medevac, the RACQ chopper was dispatched to a serious two-vehicle crash on the Bruce Highway, near Childers.

It’s understood at least two people – believed to be an adult and a child – were critically injured in the smash and will need to be airlifted to hospital. Read more.
