‘Human’ skeletal remains found in Qld river

Investigations are underway after skeletal remains were found in a river at Mackay.

A passerby located the bones slightly submerged in the Pioneer River near Barnes Creek Road Park around 3pm on Friday.

Initial examinations have revealed the bones are human, however further forensic testing will be carried out.


It’s not yet known if they are male or female, or how long they’ve been in the water for.

Officers said further investigations will be conducted at first light today.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
