Woman assaulted by stranger she shared a cab home with in NSW

A young woman has allegedly been assaulted by a stranger she had shared a taxi home with after a night out in Sydney on Friday.

Police say the 19-year-old was waiting for a taxi on Anzac Parade near the intersection of Bunnerong Road at Kingsford at around 2am when a man waiting at a nearby bus stop approached her.

He allegedly convinced the young woman to share a taxi with him, which they caught to the intersection of Devitt Place.

It is here where, after leaving the taxi, police allege the man assaulted the woman.

She screamed out for help and a bystander rushed to her aid, causing her attacker to flee.

Fortunately, Thanks to the brave response of the bystander, the woman was not injured.

Detectives are still searching for the man who was last seen running towards Heffron Park, wearing a grey hooded jumper and tracksuit pants.

He is described as being Middle Eastern/Mediterranean appearance, 20-25-years-old and of a slim build.
