HE has been one of the V8 Supercar’s most dominant drivers for the best part of a decade and now Jamie Whincup is edging closer to yet another Championship crown.
The Gold Coaster will be able to claim his sixth V8 title at next month’s Phillip Island 400 after opening his lead to 402 points thanks to victory in Sunday’s GC 600.
Whincup will only need to secure a lead of more than 300 points after the next event to take out the title before the final event, the Sydney 500, in December.
