Jogger accused of punching cyclist in Mermaid Beach

Gold Coast cyclists hope they’ve put an end to alleged bashings by a Mermaid Beach jogger.

They claim to have been terrified by the man who is accused of running at them as they come in opposite directions along Hedges Avenue, before punching them.

The alleged repeat incidents came to a head on Friday, when one cyclist decided he had had enough.

Nick took to a Gold Coast cycling Facebook page to report the incident, before going to Police.

“Today I had this guy charge me and punch me quite hard when I was cycling along Hedges Av,” he told members of Gold Coast Cycling Combine.

“Its not the first time. Hes been running ~ 6 AM a number of times over the last 3 or so weeks. I’ve got sick of him charging at me so mounted the gopro. Captured it today,” he wrote, alongside a photo of the man.

The post attracted dozens of comments and shares, with many confirming they too had been confronted by the man who has “got real attitude”.

Police issued an appeal for information which resulted in the man taking himself to the Broadbeach Police station on Friday night.

The 53-year-old Mermaid Waters local was charged with one count of common assault to face the Southport Magistrates Court on November 28.
