A Gold Coast nurse who assists patients at Robina Hospital’s Renal Dialysis Unit has won 1029 Hot Tomato’s Gold Coast Nursing Award for March 2017.
Julie Al Khamis (Pearson) is a clinical nurse who has spent over 17 years working on the Gold Coast. “I came from a simple upbringing but I remember having a nursing kit as a child. I think becoming a nurse stemmed from that,” she told myGC.
“I absolutely love what I do. I am so blessed to work with an amazing team who help keep my passion burning. It’s a very serious job – every day I am helping patients who are going through kidney failure. It can be incredibly sad, so I try to bring as much joy to patients as I can.”

Along with a certificate, Julie wins $250 and is now a finalist in the 2017 Annual Award where she could win a share in cash and prizes of over $5,000.
“It is such a shock to win. I am so humbled,” she said holding back tears. “I feel this is an award I need to share with all of my team members – they are just wonderful.”
