Labrador Oztag are buzzing after taking home a $2000 donation from the Sunshine Automotive Community Fund.
The local sporting club beat out 46 other community groups in the running for the cash, after they secured the highest number of votes in the October round on the myGC.com.au website.
On Friday afternoon some members of the club were on hand to receive the giant cheque at Sunshine Automotive.
Labrador Oztag venue co-ordinator Angie McConchie told myGC the club was so excited to score the donation. “It’s amazing. Thank you so much to Sunshine Automotive and 1029 Hot Tomato. Ee are really thrilled and the juniors are really going to benefit from it. We would really like to thank one of our amazing Oztag mums, Julie Bartlette, who set this whole thing up for us and to all of our Oztag families who voted. The support the club receives from the families is huge so we appreciate it.”
As for what they will be spending the money on, fellow venue co-ordinator Raymond Dent told myGC it will help with the school clinics the club provides. “We offer free school clinics. It’s not government funded and the funding usually comes out of our competition fees. So we will be putting some of the money towards that as well as the kits we buy for the schools. The kits are normally $300 each and we donate them to the schools at the end of each clinic.”
Ms McConchie continued: “It’s definitely going to help with the growth of the sport. A lot of kids are playing Oztag for the first time, so the clinics that we do for them in their P.E classes are teaching them the basics of the sport and then they have a lot more confidence to come and join.”
