A SERIES of thunderstorms swept across the Gold Coast on Thursday evening, bringing with them deafening thunder, frequent dangerous lightning and heavy bursts of rain.
Hinterland areas recorded the best rainfall, with 25mm at Mt Tamborine, 16mm at Clagiraba, Beechmont and Hinze Dam, and 12mm at Canungra.
Meanwhile suburbs closer to the coast received very little, with widespread reports of a measly 3-5mm falling in the gauge.

The lightning was spectacular however, lighting up the skies above the city for hours in scenes many haven’t seen in years.
Frightening for some maybe, but it was a cause for celebration for local photographers who were eager to get ‘that shot’.
Many flocked to Facebook to share their lucky snaps – check out some of the best submitted pictures below.
Thousands of homes lost power across the southeast, but there were no major disruptions to the Gold Coast with just a little over 300 customers blacked out in Southport, including the Australia Fair Shopping Centre.
Thankfully the city dodged the hail, but there were reports of it falling at Jimboomba and around Beechmont.
