THE good folk at the Lions Club of Ormeau are getting right into the spirit of Christmas.
After winning $5,000 in Pimpama Junction Shopping Centre‘s My Community Rocks competition, the club is now looking for ways they can ‘pay it forward’ and share their winnings to help more local community groups get ahead in the New Year.
The Pimpama Junction My Community Rocks competition saw shoppers place tokens in barrels over the past six weeks to vote for their favourite community organisation to share in $10,000 worth of cash.

Ormeau Lions Club president Margaret O’Neill said winning the competition was a great surprise, and she was now looking to find ways to give back to the locals of Pimpama, in the same way the club had been supporting the community of Ormeau and Pimpama district over many years.
“We were thrilled to see that we had so much support from the community, so our plan is to spread the money around so that other groups in Pimpama can set themselves up for a great start to 2015,” she said.
“We are now calling for applications from groups who think they could put the money to good use – if they can demonstrate they have a worthy cause which will benefit a wide variety of local residents then we are happy to support it.
“I applaud Pimpama Junction Shopping Centre for taking the initiative to host this community-minded competition – it really shows that locals are willing to support each other and give back to improve the community they live in.”
