Long drive home for afternoon motorists after massive M1 crash

Bad news for anyone travelling on the Pacific Motorway this afternoon…

A massive crash at Nerang is causing major delays for motorists southbound on the M1, with police urging drivers to avoid the area.

The accident, believed to involve five cars and a truck, happened on the Nerang River Bridge around 3.15pm.

Photos supplied to myGC show a ute on top of the bonnet of another vehicle, which has been struck in the rear by a truck.

Several emergency crews including paramedics, police and firies are currently at the scene.

One person has been taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with “medical concerns”, while six others declined assessment by paramedics.

Queensland Police say motorists are being stopped from entering the M1 at Southport Nerang Road.

Back roads in the area are also heavily congested with people trying to take detours around the crash.

Get serious! These type of “accidents” appear each day across our region. Roads get closed thousands inconvenienced, not to mention the $$$ it costs us all in insurance etc. Normally the one that creates the mayhem is only fined a couple of hundred $$ for neg driving. Time to get real and say it how it is. An Assault is what it should be and the responsible person should be charged as such.
