Machete-wielding thief on the run after robbing servo

A machete-wielding thief remains on the run after robbing a service station at Beaudesert, west of the Gold Coast, overnight.

Police say the man entered the servo on Beaudesert Nerang Road around 8pm before approaching the front counter.

He then allegedly pulled out a large machete and demanded money and cigarettes from the worker, a 37-year-old woman.

The woman complied before fleeing into another room and sounding the alarm as the man put the goods into a black backpack.

The man then smashed the glass counter with the machete before running from the store.

He is described as Caucasian in appearance, around 165cm with a thin build and blue eyes. He was wearing a long sleeved dark blue jacket with a hood, long cream pants, black Nike shoes and black socks on his hands.
