Man, 90, dies following assault at nursing home

A 90-year-old man has sadly passed away after suffering serious injuries in an assault at a nursing home in NSW.

Police say the fight broke out between two patients at a high-dependency dementia ward in Woonona just before 7.00pm on Tuesday.

“On arrival police were notified that a 90-year-old man suffered serious injuries and was unable to be revived,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“The second man, aged 77, is also a resident of the ward due to his dementia.”

A crime scene has since been established, with local police and officers from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad investigating the death of the elderly patient.

“Officers are working with the facilities manager and local health organisations,” police said.

Family members were also in attendance and assisted police with their inquiries.
