Man accused of multiple sexual assaults at tourist hot spot

Detectives have put the call out for more possible victims to come forward, after a man was slapped with multiple sexual assault charges relating to incidents at a popular Queensland tourist destination.

It’s alleged the 24-year-old approached and inappropriately touched three women near the Cairns Lagoon around lunchtime on Saturday.

The women told Police the incidents occurred between 12.30 and 1.30pm.

“A member of the public chased the man along the Esplanade before he disappeared while running down Spence Street,” Police said in a statement.

“Following complaints received from the three women, officers retrieved and reviewed CCTV footage of the surrounding area, identified the man and located him a short time later.”

He is due to face court on Monday charged with three counts of sexual assault.

Detectives are now appealing for anyone who believes they may have been inappropriately approached by this man, and who have not already spoken to police about the incident to please contact them.
