Man arrested after fight with sister ends in dramatic siege

A MAN has been tasered, arrested and taken to hospital to be assessed following a domestic violence-related siege at a house in Wollongong.

Police were called to a domestic dispute between a 23-year-old man and his sister at a house on the Princes Highway at Fairy Meadow about 9am.

As they arrived, the man allegedly armed himself with several knives and barricaded himself inside the property while threatening violence to police if they entered.

Tactical police responded and secured a perimeter around the home as they tried coaxing the man out.

After near three hours of talks, officers discharged an electronic control device and subsequently arrested the man.  He’s been taken to Wollongong Hospital for assessment.

The Princes Highway was closed in both directions while emergency services responded to the incident.

The highway has since reopened and investigations into the incident are continuing.
