Man charged for alleged police assault

A MAN has been charged with serious assault after lashing out at officers during a routine RBT in Arundel early on Wednesday morning.

According to Police, the man was a passenger in a car that was pulled over at the intersection of Olsen Avenue and Napper Road around 12:40am.

He allegedly got out of the vehicle to try and dispose of something and was refusing to comply with police directions.

It’s further alleged, as officers attempted to restrain him, he elbowed a male officer in the face and then punched him, causing a cut to his mouth and sprained another male officer’s fingers.

A 31-year-old Labrador man has been charged with two counts of serious assault police, and one count each of obstructing police and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is scheduled to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

A female juvenile will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
