Man charged after leading police on dangerous chase through Gold Coast

A man has been charged after leading police on a dangerous chase through the streets of the Gold Coast on Saturday night.

Just before 8.00pm, POLAIR detected a high speed vehicle on the M1 at Highland Park. The police chopper tracked the vehicle while an unmarked police car attempted to intercept it on Wardoo Street.

Police say the car, believed to have been stolen, failed to stop for officers and continued to drive in a dangerous manner through the streets of Southport, Pacific Pines and Helensvale.

After a short while, officers successfully managed to deploy a tyre deflation device on Helensvale Road, however the car continued to drive for a short distance with three blown tyres.

It was eventually forced to come to a stop on Kopps Road at Oxenford and two men were taken into custody.

A 22-year-old man was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, failing to stop, fraud, stealing, drug and traffic offences.

Investigations are ongoing.
