Man charged with murder of 20-month-old girl

Detectives investigating the horrific death of a little girl have charged a man with murder.

The 26-year-old was arrested at a home at Tanilba Bay about 8.30am Thursday following an ongoing investigation by State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

He was taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station where he was charged.

It comes after emergency crews were called to a house at Tarro last month following reports a 20-month-old girl was in cardiac arrest.

The child was rushed to John Hunter Hospital, but sadly, she could not be revived.

A post mortem examination later revealed the girl had suffered numerous serious injuries, including facial, head, and torso bruising, abrasions, and lacerations; broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and internal bleeding.

Police will allege in court that the injuries were occasioned by non-accidental trauma.

Inquiries are continuing.
