Man dies after falling 20 storeys from construction site

A man has plunged to his death from a construction site in Melbourne this morning.

The tragic accident occurred in Carlton just before 8.30am, with the worker reportedly falling 20 storeys down an open shaft.

Paramedics treated the man on the scene, however he could not be revived.

Open shaft?? Elevator shaft?? No edge protection?? No Union on site????

Surprised it doesn’t happen more often. The volume of near misses would be huge. Many short cuts are taken, careless mistakes are in abundance on high rise work sites. Workers are under immense pressure with very little support on a lot of sites.
